Having an autoimmune is one of those tricky things. I have learned over the years, I need to take care of my body otherwise I start to feel like crap.
Yep, that is the honest truth. I wish I could tell you all my health issues faded away when I started eating health or using essential oils but the beautiful dance of having an autoimmune is being in-tune to your body.
I have changed over the years. I was once raw, macrobiotic, vegan, vegetarian, paleo and so on…. Now, I listen to my body. I eat according to the season, and what my body needs to thrive.
I have dealt with candida, allergies, thyroid issues, parasites, gut health galore, depression and liver toxicity that lead to mercury poisoning and a lot of sleepless nights.
In the past few years, as I let go of a certain type of diet or eating, I started to feel better. I started to see what foods were robbing me blind. I knew grains, beans and not soaking nuts was an issue because of the phytic acid (phytic acid can rob you of minerals that are essential for thyroid health). I knew juicing goitrogen vegetables was not good for me and so now, when I eat kale, spinach or broccoli – I cook those babies.
I also know dehydration is a big issue for many who have digestive issues – dry skin, dry hair, constipation, food allergies and bloating to just name a few.
If I do not hydrate properly, the autoimmune stuff kicks in and I feel exhausted.
Here is one of my favorite recipes for hydrating naturally.
Old Skool & Natural Gatorade – The Best Vitamin Water
1 quart of coconut water, water or green tea
1/8-1/4 tsp Himalayan Sea Salt
Juice of one lemon
1/4 cup berries of choice
1 tablespoon raw honey or a few drops of stevia (not really needed)
Let this baby infuse for 6 hours in your fridge, then drink up. I was feeling dry, tired and blah until I started to hydrate the right way. Our cells, our adrenals, our thyroid and our body – need salts for every metabolic process and those babies are alkalizing too! Hydrate and regenerate plus it is yummy and the kids love it too.
