Eating Raw & Improving Digestion with Warming Spices

Many people start to consume more raw foods and feel bloated. I have learned to support my digestion with warming spices to enhance the digestive fire. When your digestive fire is weak, raw foods will cause bloat. We want to consume raw foods because they are rich in live enzymes, alkalizing and provide essential nutrients for the body but we do not want to feel bloated.

Many people suffer with low stomach acid, resulting in poor assimilation of nutrients and leading to bloat and even acid reflux.

Simple Summer Smoothie for Weight Loss

1 cup unsweetened coconut milk, hemp milk or rice milk

1 green apple

1 kiwi

½ avocado

1 teaspoon ground flax seeds

1 teaspoon ground chia seeds

1 handful of fresh spinach

1 inch piece of ginger (warming spice for digestion)

Blend & Consume.

This is what has worked for me:

1. Replenish your good bacteria with probiotics & ferments. Get your cultured food on! Drink kefir and kombucha, and eat varied cultured veggies and fruits. Now that you aren’t promoting the bad stuff with the acid inhibitors, you can also build up your army of good flora.

 

2. Support Digestion with Raw Apple Cider Vinegar. Drink a shot of ACV (with the mother!) mixed in water before each meal to promote that acidic environment.

 

3. Calm down. Have you noticed that your belly can get a bit riled up with extra acid when you’re having a rough day? Take a few breaths, take up meditation and yoga, and let that stress melt away. Your stomach will thank you!

 

4. Add warming spices to my meals. I add ginger, turmeric, garlic, cumin, cayenne or paprika to all my raw meals and this includes juices, smoothies, raw soups and even the warm meals I am eating to enhance that digestive fire.

As you strength the digestive fire, you will naturally lose weight. You do not have to starve, take a pill or only drink juices to lose weight once your digestive system is functioning like a well oiled machine.
