Summer Smoothies

It is summer time and that means smoothie craziness in my life. If you are like me, you are looking for a way to lighten the load and stay cool during the summer season. I find so many people gain weight during the summer or feel bloated. During the summer, when the weather gets warmer, so does the body and this can result in feeling congested, having extra mucous in your sinuses and suffering with headaches.

If you are waking up at 2-3 am, the height of the liver time, per the chinese meridian organ clock, then we know you need to cool off. If you think about how hard we work during the day, sometimes it can be hard to calm down at night. Many of us, like me, have kids and that means dinner, bathing the babies and then getting them into bed. By the time it is 8 PM, I feel tired. I used to run to the pantry and eat some nuts, which are healthy but for many like myself, can hamper digestion, so now I make a smoothie and drink half.

Drinking smoothies is a great way to support digestion, cool off the body and support the liver for a good night’s sleep. As I mentioned, if you are waking up in the middle of the night, then you may want to try one of these three smoothies to cool off your jets before sleep. I suggest having half a smoothie 2 hours before you go to sleep as a snack, if you feel you are running to the pantry and eating chips or foods that can harder on digestion.
