If you have not heard about the ketogenic diet, then listen up. This is a high fat – big protein diet and little carbs. I have been experimenting with this way of eating to balance blood sugars for my own autoimmune.
Once I was blessed with an autoimmune, things changed in my life. I had to learn how to balance my blood sugars, support healthy digestion and detoxification daily.
I had my first ulcer at 14 years old and never did I think this ulcer would turn into ulcerative colitis later in life. I was a healthy kid and swam competitively until I was 18 years old. I had what I thought was normal : sleep issues, hives, rashes, allergies and urinary tract infections.
I realize this may be “normal” in today’s world but for me today, these are warming signs.
When my kids have a rash, this is a sign of an imbalance in the gut and a sign I need to support with probiotic rich foods and support the histamine reaction.
For me, blood sugar can get imbalanced when I am stressed, even as a small girl. I have learned how to balance it through foods and de-stressing.
There has been great amount of research for ketogenic diets to reset the metabolism and support autoimmune disease. I have been experimenting with eating this way and wanted to share on of my favorite low sugar, low carb, high protein, ketogenic smoothies with you.
This smoothie has the right amount of protein, fat and fiber with little sugar. Meet the The Ketogenic Green Smoothie.
1/2 cup coconut milk, organic
1/4 cup spinach or kale
1 scoop pea protein
2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
3-6 drops liquid Stevia extract
ice cubes (if needed)
