How to Grow Your List with A Freebie

A lot of new coaches come to me asking how to grow their social platforms, thinking that’s what is going to create success in their business.

While a really good social media strategy can help you skyrocket your business, I never think of it as the “be all.”

I feel like I can’t say this enough, but so many coaches still miss a huge piece of the puzzle in their business that pretty much guarantees longevity and success when leveraged right.

You NEED lead generation.

And while you can generate leads on social media, those are not your leads. If that platform goes down…

If you don’t have your people, your tribe, your potential clients, somewhere you can still reach them.

You’re done. Panic mode activated….

So what is my answer when coaches get too focused on their social media being the core of their business growth strategy?

Grow an email list.

List building allows you to get people past that first step of interaction and funnel them into a place where they can learn more about you and what you offer.

These are people and leads that have asked to hear more from you and took a step towards making sure they can.

Warm leads = Easier sales.

And the best part? You own your email list. No one can take it away from you.

If you are working solely organic, this is going to be a vital part of your overall strategy.

How do you build an email list, though?

I want you to sit on 2 words for a second.

Value exchange.

Provide A Value Exchange

You are asking for something of value from your readers- their email.

You need to match that value, and the easiest way to do that is with a freebie, a short, value-packed “What and why” based gift that is focused on the problem you solve.

Weight loss coach? Share some of your recipes or run a challenge.

Health and detox coach? Record a short workshop on why detoxing is so important, or even share a mini detox.

Mindset coach? Teach them about their Chakras or even how to live a happier life.

Here’s how to use your freebie:

  1. Write down 3 pain points/struggles your ideal client faces.
  2. Then write down 3 solutions for each of those.
  3. Next, think of a freebie for each of those (present it as the solution).

…I call this the 3 Freebie Method – and it worked for me and for hundreds of other health coaches worldwide.

Here’s an example:

3 Pains

  1. Can’t lose weight
  2. Hormones are a mess
  3. Terrible digestive bloat

3 Solutions

  1. 4 Day Weight Loss Reboot
  2. 5 Day Hormone Detox
  3. 10 Ways To Repair Your Gut

I know some health coaches try to avoid giving away freebies because they feel like they are going to give away the farm, but letting people tour the property isn’t going to make them want to start their own farm.

They are going to come back and ask you how they can get more of what you showed them.

The results you offer your clients in your programs and paid sessions.
