Best uses for Chia Seed

Everyone is talking Chia Seeds, even Dr. Oz & Oprah. I figured it was time to write about the benefits of chia seeds. I remember falling I love with hemp seeds and then chia seeds came on the market and everyone fell in love. Why?

Chia seeds are loaded with calcium, omegas, protein and even antioxidants. Chia seeds are also great for weight loss and hydrating the body. I consider them the perfect food for anyone wanting to have more energy and get a boost of antioxidants to combat oxidative stress.

Chia seeds are the ideal food for any athlete wanting to prevent dehydration.

For many people who suffer with constipation, because chia seeds contain soluble fiber, this is a great way to naturally deal with constipation. For anyone who is deficient in minerals and vitamins, chia seeds contain the following : strontium, Vitamins A, B, E, and D, and minerals including calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, iron, iodine, copper, zinc, sodium, magnesium, manganese, niacin, thiamine, and silicon.

You can do many things with these cool seeds.

1. Chia Eggs

For example, in my home we are egg free. I can use chia seeds as an egg substitute. To make a chia egg simply add to a bowl : 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and grind them in a coffee maker and add 3 tablespoons water and let sit for 3 minutes.

2. Add to your favorite smoothie or salad. I like to add 1-2 tablespoons to a smoothie to balance blood sugar and get a healthy dose of Omegas, which often we are lacking. Omega’s are key for reducing inflammation in the body.

3. Energy Gels. My hubby is an avid runner and we have found adding 3 tablespoons to a cup of coconut water is the perfect way to stay hydrated and recover from an intense workout. The cup of coconut water will create a gel like drink that you can add to a container (I buy my gel containers at the running store.) This is also perfect for children too. I like to add a flavoring to my kids drinks or use the chocolate coconut water with the chia seeds. HOME RUN for hydration and energy plus a sweet treat.

If you are looking to add extra energy to your life or boost your workouts or simply restore your digestion – get back to the basics with food, then contact me about a program that will work for your unique body.
